Case study: How I increased signups from 1% to 38%

Case study: How I increased signups from 1% to 38%

Email marketing generates 36-45x ROI when done correctly.

But it feels horrible when nobody joins your list. Zero ROI there.

Well, average signup rates in B2B tech are as low as 1-5%

Here’s how to NOT be average and reach 38% signup rates instead:

Client situation

Jason helps SaaS founders increase MRR by setting up a system to collect, monitor and analyze visitor data.

His audience is technical, always busy, and receive too many emails already. They need a VERY clear high-value reason to subscribe to another newsletter, especially when it’s obviously linked to a business. Jason’s acquisition system didn’t reflect these expectations at all.

Just like 90% of businesses he only had a “Subscribe to our Newsletter” form on his website and a blog. No valuable proposition, no dedicated landing page, no mentions on X or Linkedin.

Literally less than 1% of visitors joined his email list.

Goal

Increase qualified signups by building an inbound system that:

  • Attracts qualified SaaS founders
  • Captures their contact information
  • Turns them into paying customers

Solution

Here’s what we did:

  • defined his target audience and their top-priority growth problems related to customer/visitor data. Turns out not every SaaS is the right fit for this service. There’s no point in attracting the wrong audience
  • built a free 3-day email course (later updated to 5-days + extended sequence) specifically for his ICP and visitor intent
  • replaced generic newsletter signup forms everywhere
  • created a dedicated landing page structured around problem, promise, deliverables, credibility, CTA
  • made X content (text + images) to promote this resource

Result

Within 45 days signups went up from <1% to 38.2%

Jason increased the qualified pipeline of SaaS founders, pre-sold before sales calls.

This system is currently his highest-performing conversion channel.

Client feedback

“I honestly didn’t think email could be this important for my business. Now it’s my best lead conversion mechanism bringing exactly the founders I want to work with.” (c) Jason

Key takeaways

  • Generic newsletter subscription forms don’t capture intent-driven buyers
  • If you want high conversions, your content/resources need a clear value proposition + dedicated landing page + structured onboarding
  • Even moderate traffic volume produces meaningful business results when optimized with the right assets for the right audience

If you want to stop attracting random people who bounce off the website, and start getting engaged email subscribers that convert to customers - Build an educational email sequence.
